Translation of Specialised Texts

The number of standard lines (“standard line price”) of the text in the target language always determines the price charged for a translation. The standard line, by definition, has 55 keystrokes, spaces included, which corresponds to 50 characters.

Usually the number of lines of the source text and of the target text differs. The number of standard lines of the translated target text is electronically counted. To determine the translator’s fee, this number is multiplied by the standard line price.

The translator’s fee is calculated according to the number of standard lines of the translation in the target language.

Costs

Professional translations have their justified price. An unprofessional translation is detrimental to the customer’s interest and to the whole profession’s image. The translator assumes the responsibility for the correctness of a translation.

The price charged for a line depends on various factors such as language combination, the difficulty in which the translation comes, the time needed for enquiries or the special field.

I will be pleased to make a rough estimate of costs for the translation of your text according to the number of standard lines.

All charges are net prices subject to VAT of currently 19%.

The minimum charge for a translation is 30.-€ plus the applicable statutory VAT.

Based on the only legal definition regarding the invoicing of translation and interpreting services, I usually invoice translations according to the provisions laid down in the German “Justizvergütungs- und –entschädigungsgesetz (Section 3, Article 8 - 14) JVEG. These articles regulate the compensation for court experts, interpreters, translators, honorary judges, witnesses and any other third parties in court proceedings in Germany.

Interpretation Service

The interpreter’s fee usually is charged as a fee per day. Preparation, familiarization with the subject, the enquiries required before and after the event are included.

In an individual phone call, I will be pleased to advise you and to quote my fee per day subject to VAT.

For interpretation services for the courts or on behalf of the prosecution, fees per hour are charged.

Interpretation services in the form of “on-site interpreting” or “in-person interpreting”, which means a face-to-face interpreting for your firm and your customers, escort interpreting at fairs and exhibitions, interpretation in notary’s offices for family law matters or in the case of a sale of real estate will always be invoiced at time rates. I will be pleased to make a rough estimate of costs for the interpretation service.
